Poppy Red Mica Blend
Poppy Red Mica Blend
Exclusively from Mad Micas
Lab Notes: A neon red! Red poppies have always been one of my favorite flowers in the world and I almost jumped up and down when I opened this version. It was exactly what I wanted! It's vibrant and lively with warm undertones. It is incredibly bright and doesn’t require a lot to get a saturated color.
I quickly made a batch of cold process soap, epoxy resin and clear MP soap, hoping they would all come out as perfect as the pigment blend. They all came out great - and different from True Red! I knew POPPY RED was the name for this one!
I did a little more research on red poppies: they symbolize several things, but the ones I think fit are inspiration, devotion, and hope for a peaceful future. In the Japanese language of flowers, Hanakotoba, the red poppy means “fun-loving”. For me, the “pop” in poppy is the key to this color. More than bright, it is absolute fun!
Looks less red in powder form than it does in products. Use recommended amount to achieve red.
CP Soap: Tested using 3 grams/pound of cold process soap batter.
Consistent in both epoxy resin and clear MP soap (usage in MP was ½ teaspoon per lb. of clear base). Predictable.
A mica/pigment blend.
The custom manufacturing process of these exclusive colors may result in slight variations from lot to lot.

Gorgeous, vibrant red in CP soap!
My first order and I was soo excited. Bought this particular red for a 'fire engine red' look. Way too pink to say it is a red soap. Did not use titanium or white/silver mica. Have been soaping since 2005 so not a newbie, oh well. Please advise.
Hi there, and thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience. I’m really sorry to hear that Poppy Red didn’t perform the way you were hoping, especially when you were aiming for a strong red. We know how disappointing that can feel, even for experienced soapers.
There are so many factors that can influence how a mica behaves in cold process soap...everything from the oils in your recipe, to the specific fragrance oil, to the usage rate, temperature, and more. A small shift in any of those can sometimes push a red toward pink, which makes troubleshooting really important so we can help you get the exact result you want.
We’d really love the chance to work through this with you and help figure out what happened. If you’re open to it, please reach out to us at colors@madmicas.com with your recipe details (oils, lye concentration, fragrance, usage rate, and anything else you think might be relevant). With that info, we can give you tailored guidance and help you achieve the red you were going for. We truly appreciate you giving us a try, and we’re here to help you get the color results you want.
This is such a pretty color! Definitely one to keep in my line-up!
I was oh so surprised by just how bright and vibrant this color was, This was the recommended usage for CP soap.
I have purchased so many of MadMica’s mica powders. Have not tested all of the yet. However, all of the powder colorants that I have used to make soft baits for fishing are beyond what I had expected. Works beautifully with plastisol, great value for 1oz jars and 5gm samples. Colors are vibrant and go a long way.
Two thumbs up to MadMicas.
